COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Advanced Taxation exam is designed to reflect the need to exercise professional judgement and provide relevant information and advice to individuals and businesses on the impact of major taxes on financial decisions and situations.
How to approach the Advanced Taxation (ATX) exam
You will need a detailed knowledge of the ATX-UK syllabus. This includes assumed knowledge of technical areas brought
forward from the TX-UK syllabus, which must be refreshed and updated for the examinable Finance Act.
Be aware that:
- All questions will be scenario-based
- All questions will contain a mixture of computational and discursive elements
- More than one topic area of the syllabus may be examined in each question
Questions may involve
- Consideration of more than one tax
- Some elements of planning
- The interaction of taxes
Main capabilities
On successful completion of this exam, candidates should be able to:
A – Apply further knowledge and understanding of the UK tax system through thestudy of more advanced topics within the taxes studied previously and the study of stamp taxes
B – Identify and evaluate the impact of relevant taxes on various situations and courses of action, including the interaction of taxes
C – Provide advice on minimising and/or deferring tax liabilities by the use of standard tax planning measures
D – Communicate with clients, HM Revenue and Customs and other professionals in an appropriate manner.
